70 photo collages of an ocean liner, a ‘living machine’ that has celebrated its 75th birthday. The prototype of Le Corbusier’s concrete block on stilts, bathed in the amazing clear light of the Mediterranean – the sun at its zenith, producing razor-sharp shadows, the deep blue of the sky and the unreal azure of the sea, the healthy dry heat, the scent of pine trees. Bon bref, l'été français !
Do I like it? Do I like this Brutalism. I do like the Bauhaus and Niemeyer too. Yes, it’s more than just a photographic trophy. But living there? Would Mr Le Corbusier have lived in his ‘Living Machine’?
